OCOVI is working with CARICOOS headquarters and WeatherFlow to finalize the calendar for the repair and servicing of weather stations that make up the CARICOOS mesonet in Puerto Rico and the USVI. Several stations on Puerto Rico will be tackled in early June, and several in the USVI will get attention later in the month. Readers may recall that the two most outstanding surviving stations were the met station at Isla Culebrita, which survived wind gusts of 124.4 mph and 138 mph in Hurricanes Irma and Maria respectively, and the station at Sandy Point, St. Croix, shown in the photo, which measured wind gusts of 115.9 mph in Irma and 137.3 mph as Hurricane Maria's front-right eye wall brushed by. Both stations are still reporting. The strongest wind gust at any WeatherFlow station was 140.9 mph reported during Maria from the Buck Island, St. Thomas station, which was silenced as its tower collapsed less than an hour later. These data and a currently updated chart of Irma and Maria winds have been provided by Jay Titlow of WeatherFlow for the OCOVI Archives
